iSLi Projects

At iSLi, we are determined to not only enhance our students' educational experiences, but to give back to the global community. Obstacles that students face around the world vary from a complete lack of access to education to cultural taboos that discriminate against certain genders, thus hindering the equal flow of knowledge. Our objective is simple - to bring out the best in all students through a series of projects collaborated on and developed “by students for students” using innovative methodologies and technologies. We want to design solutions to bring quality education where its needed.

Shipping Container Classroom

This project entails converting a shipping container into a self-sustaining, mini-classroom that will be deployed to a rural village, where the nearest school is a few hours away walking distance. It will be equipped with solar panels to generate the necessary electric power to provide electricity for lighting, internet access, a Flat screen television, camera, and a heating and cooling system. This project will involve a collaboration between iSLi and:

  • A leading architect and professor

  • Students from the Department of Architecture to modify and redesign the shipping container

  • Students from The Department of International Studies to determine the country/site of deployment and necessary logistics and data

  • Students from the Department of Electrical Engineering to design the electrical technology

  • Students from the Department of Education to create a potential curriculum towards the goal of promoting quality education
